A lush, tropical beauty from the rainforests of South America.

The Calathea Orbifolia is a popular choice amongst plant lovers because of its striking beauty and lush foliage. Native to the tropical rainforests of South America, the Orbifolia is part of the family of prayer plants.

There are many types of Calatheas that can make beautiful statement pieces in your home amongst your collection.

They are definitely suited to more experienced houseplant owners but not impossible to care for if you're willing to put in the effort. Because of their origin, the Calathea family is quite fussy when it comes to their location, temperature, water quality and humidity levels. Neglecting this often results drooped or burnt leaves which is not a good look for these beauties.

HOW TO CARE FOR THE CALATHEA ORBIFOLIA:

  • These plants exist as part of the undergrowth in rainforests and therefore needs more shade and indirect light to thrive.
  • Because Calatheas need high humidity, they work well in a bathroom but you can also create humidity by placing them on top of a tray of stones filled with water (or get yourself a humidifier if you're feeling fancy...)
  • You'll need to keep the soil moist, so a twice weekly watering schedule works well if you have hot and dry summers (in winter, water less but don't let the soil dry out).
  • Misting the plant works well with humidity and keeping moisture. It also cleans the leaves.

This plant is so stunning but its leaves turn crispy so quickly without any warning. But once you start with Calatheas, you can't turn back! :)
